Rational people are happy people. Fact. Dr. Robert Lustig came up with the four C’s to boost your happiness and clear your mind. You can find the rest of his information in his book The Hacking of the American Mind: The Science Behind the Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains. Here are the four C’s without further ado:
- Connect. Boost your long term happiness (serotonin levels) by connecting with friends and family. As our society becomes less friendly, try meeting your neighbors and asking how you can help them. Let them know you are there for them if they need you, Help the elderly or the young in your community. Often, helping an elderly person is as easy as listening to them tell stories.
- Contribute. Get out and make a difference in your community or in your family. This can mean donating money to charities, donating time to your local YMCA or nursing home, etc. The key to changing the future of our country is to make small change in your community.
- Cope. For Dr. Lustig’s purposes, this means cutting down on tablet and phone use in your home; exercising your body as often as your mind; and getting sleep! Not getting enough sleep (more than 5-6 hours) can take years off of your life.
- Cook. Cooking with your family and friends helps you eat better and helps you communicate more effectively. Use meal planning services or create your own meal plans for cheaper options. Try perfecting three to five meals then expand your repertoire.
Try these out this week and see how you feel next Monday, If you feel better, thank us! If you feel worse, blame Dr. Lustig.
